Session 1 – Biological Transformation – is a new era upon us?
Biological Transformation will have a similarly profound impact on industry and society as that of the digital revolution. At the root of this development is the systematic utilization of general principles, resources and processes of living nature for technical innovations with the central aim of realizing a sustainable value added. In 2015 the United Nations have established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which serve as a general political orientation to guarantee long-range economic, social and ecological progress. How can industrial production contribute to these aims and what role does digitalization play in this context? Do we need a new mechanism for economic growth and how can we foster interdisciplinary research and development as a key for sustainable and resilient innovations? How far are we on the way of understanding the challenge inherent with the merger of biology and technology?
